Ever wonder how lily of the valley got the be the flower of Spring? Well you can thank Charles IX who stands behind the traditional seasonal blossom. On May 1st, 1560 the king offered the delicate flower to all the women of his court as a lucky charm. The custom rapidly spread throughout Europe, making lily of the valley the official flower of May Day to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
Being one of the first flowers of Spring, lily of the valley represents the cycle of the seasons, and therefore that of haute couture. Which is just where Monsieur Dior must have received his inspiration when he created the first original scent for the House of Dior, Diorissimo. Lily of the valley was Christian Dior’s favorite flower, as much for its symbolism as its aesthetic. He would ask his florist Mrs. Dedeban to dedicate a part of her greenhouse to the lilies of the valley, so that he could wear a sprig on his suit all year long. The designer never missed his favorite flower blossoming, offering on the 1st of May to each of his clients and sewing sprigs of the flower into the linings of his dresses for luck on the day of a show.

Every WIFE enjoys the shiny coat of nail polish that comes with a pampering manicure. Small problem being that some nail lacquers are made up of toxic chemicals that can be incredibly unhealthy to your body. For THE WIFE who wants to avoid toxic nail polish, start by choosing companies that are water based instead of chemical based or a polish that uses overall natural ingredients.
Next you’ll want to shop brands that pride themselves on being “3 Free” or “5 Free.” 3 Free or otherwise known as “The Toxic Trio,” are the three main toxic ingredients in many nail polishes you’ll want to stay away from: Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, and Formaldehyde. The healthier step up is “5 Free” which are polishes made without: Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor.
