Duff’s Cake Mix
July 18th, 2012 — Activities, Cooking, Kids, Mom
If your familiar with the break out hit show “Ace of Cakes” than Charm City Cakes in Baltimore needs no introduction. Finally taking their custom cakes out to Los Angeles, Charm City Cakes West has opened up shop.
However their newest venture is next door… Duff’s Cake Mix. Think Color Me Mine but for cake decorating. Choose a 6-inch ($36), 9-inch ($52) round cake or $18 for four pre made cupcakes to decorate. Then choose from cake flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, marbled chocolate and vanilla, red velvet, carrot or the flavor of the week. Filling flavors include cream cheese, vanilla, chocolate or the weekly special.
Aspiring cake decorators can do as much or as little as they like with butter cream, fondant, food coloring, sprinkles, sugar flowers, Duff’s signature cake tattoos and even an airbrush to graffiti their cakes. Customers will get a tray of paintbrushes, piping tips, fondant tools and other gadgets. Cake mix will have the capacity to seat 40 making this a great idea for any kids birthday party or if you prefer to stay at home be sure to call about the Cakemix food truck. And as always you can order a custom decorated cake without lifting a finger or getting fondant on your Fendi. – Taryn Cox for THE WIFE

Whats For Dinner: Lasagna Cupcakes
April 26th, 2012 — Cooking, Food
Chances are if you live in LA you’ve seen the heirloom food truck and have tried one of their tasty Lasagna Cupcakes. Lasagna Cupcakes are individual sized portions of lasagna that hold their shape after being heated up and can be eaten with your hands! Although the flavors defy traditional recipes, they retain the integrity that any nonna inspires… hand-rolled pasta, fresh cheeses and herbs, seasonal vegetables, humanely raised meats, and organic tomatoes. Heirloom Caterings are now shipping these tasty wonders frozen on dry ice so that you can keep them in the freezer for up to one month or pop them directly in the oven upon their arrival. Also local delivery available. Perfect for nights when you need a break from cooking and want to serve your family something they will love!
