Let me introduce you to Fonuts… The most tasty doughnuts I have ever had! Four-star pastry chef Waylynn Lucas (Jose Andres’ Bazaar, Patina) and pal Nancy Truman just opened the West Hollywood doughnut shop last week with rave reviews. The fluffy confections are baked fresh daily using quality ingredients, un fried and vegan or both vegan and gluten-free. So far I have yet to try a flavor I haven’t gone weak in the knees for, but lookout for my favorites: Strawberry Buttermilk, Maple Bacon and The Hawaiian Fōnut filled with coconut custard and sprinkled with li hing mui powder. To wash it down grab a cup of organic milk or Lamill coffee, I recommend the Chai Latte. I suggest going first thing when they open at 9:00 as they’ve been selling out of most flavors before noon. – Taryn Cox for THE WIFE.
Flavors include: Glazed, Banana Chocolate*, Chocolate Hazelnut*, Peach**, Lemon**, Strawberry Buttermilk, Rosemary Olive Oil, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Hawaiian, Chorizo Cheddar, Rum, Cinnamon Sugar (*Wheat/Gluten Free & ** Wheat/Gluten Free & Vegan)

With Summer ending and Labor Day around the corner what better time to whip up some tasty uber fancy S’mores. I first saw this idea on Oh Joy Eats and since have been noticing the many different varieties of gourmet marshmallows you could get creative with. First up is Whimsy & Spice which can be ordered online or found at Dean and Deluca (Soho Location) with their flavors: Caramel, Cardamom, Maple, Lemongrass, Chocolate and Rose Vanilla. Next is Plush Puffs which can be found at Whole Foods with wild flavors like: Maple Bacon, Vanilla Bean, Caramel Swirl, Chocolate Chip, Toasty Coconut, Peppi-Mint and Cinnamon.(Bonus – Most Plush Puffs are Glutten Free, Corn Syrup Free and Fat Free!) And last but not least is Butter Baked Goods that are sold at Joan’s on Third with homemade marshmallows in simple flavors like: Raspberry, Vanilla Mint and Coconut. – Taryn Cox for THE WIFE
Simply cut each fancy marshmallow in half, join the two halves together, then toast them with the chocolate and bottom graham cracker in the toaster oven. When it comes out, the marshmallows will be toasty and gooey…and the chocolate nice and melted. Top it with the 2nd cracker, and you’ve got a fancy marshmallow and chocolate extravaganza for your taste buds. The one photographed above is with rose vanilla, toasted coconut, and crisped rice chocolate, but you can make it simpler with plain marshmallows and solid dark or milk chocolate… or dark chocolate with sea salt — Oh Joy Eats

Who would have guessed just up Larchmont Blvd you would find Kim’s Chocolates, which house the best chocolate caramels in the west. KC Chocolatier are experts in indulgent Belgium chocolate, known for their pure ingredients and eco friendly manufacturing awards. But the one tiny chocolate piece worth the trip and their best seller for years is called the “Axell.” There’s chocolate caramels and there’s chocolate caramels and then there’s the “Axell” made from dark Belgium chocolate and filled with smooth rich sea salt caramel. Perfect for a small hostess gift or small kind gesture to a loved one. They go for $1.50 each, but I recommend the biggest box possible as you’ll save yourself a few trips back. – Taryn Cox for THE WIFE.

There’s coffee and there’s coffee and there is Caffe Luxxe. If your a West sider in Los Angeles chances are your very familiar with this coffee haven. Caffe Luxxe has re-introduced the art of coffee with their craftsmanship, artistic inspiration, traditional proportions and drinking temperature. They uses Northern Italian style espresso that offers rich taste that is never bitter or burnt. Their Coffee beans are ground fresh at the time of order and the final touch is the barista’s signature milk foam art.
