The Healthy WIFE: Clover Juice

Clover Juice

Juice bars seem to be popping up all over Los Angeles, but a new one to take note of is Clover Juice. Wives can rejoice as each fresh, cold pressed juice is the equivalent to 3 pounds of produce. Since all ingredients from Clover come from local distributors and farmers markets, the menu changes seasonally. With two locations to choose from, the La Brea location which offers take away only and 3rd street offering tasty bites from the restaurant Churchill next door.  In addition to juices Clover offers Stumptown coffee and gluten free treats from Flore Vegan. -Taryn Cox for THE WIFE

WIFE Sweet Treat: Sidecar Doughnuts

Sidecar Doughnuts

Gourmet doughnuts have FINALLY arrived in Newport Beach! Sidecar is the brainchild of Brooke Des Prez and Sumter Pendergrast, a creative duo infusing an exciting, soulful energy into the art of doughnut making.

Each doughnut is made from scratch with only the freshest possible ingredients from local producers and distributors. Sidecar features yeast-raised, cake, and buttermilk old-fashioned varieties, which are dressed up with a little something extra like fresh fruit, artisan chocolate, and even bacon. From your first bite, you will surely agree that these are no ordinary doughnuts with creative flavors like: Huckleberry, guava, cornbread with brown butter glaze, Samoa (based on the girl scout cookie), rosemary, banana nutella and fruit filled with Madagascar vanilla bean glaze.

Make Reservations at: A.O.C.

A.O.C. Restaurant

Last Sunday I organized a family dinner at the newly relocated restaurant, A.O.C. After celebrating 10 years of success the restaurant reopened it’s doors a little father west on 3rd street. Also doing a complete overhaul of the space which previously belonged to il Covo, making it a much more open, warm and inviting place to dine. A.O.C. will soon be adding a second-floor dining room to accommodate up to 50 guests for private events and wine tastings. Chef Suzanne Goin has created a new menu based on her concept of small and large plates to share. Favorites not to miss are: The Ssuckling pig with coconut rice, sweet potatoes and curry cauliflower! Reserve now and enjoy lunch, brunch, dinner, cocktails, happy hour and wine all on their enchanting patio terrace.  -Taryn Cox for THE WIFE

New York Doughnut Map

I about nearly fell on the floor when I read about the New York Doughnut Map! For those of you who don’t know me, my doughnut addiction runs deep and saying no to one of these fried pastry confections is never an option.

The company All You Can Eat Press created the delicious sinful New York Doughnut Map, a well designed city guide that gives you the “hole” truth about the tastiest treats in NYC. The map includes a brief history of doughnuts, and features 35 favorite New York doughnut shops. You can create your own doughnut mission and indulge in outrageous flavors like tres leches, creme brulee, rose and pumpkin at Doughnut Planet. Try Dough’s famed lemon meringue doughnut or their blood orange doughnut with candied oranges. Or feast your sights on Peter Pan’s doughnut ice cream sandwich.
