Must Download: Solange “True”

Solange Knowles, True

Better late then never, I just hopped on the Solange Knowles Soul Train. This time around Solange has teamed up with Blood Orange’s Devonte Hynes for a 7 song EP “True,” that debuted last Fall. Together the two produced and co wrote an truly authentic album, finally finding Solange’s true voice and identity. Shying away from a major label and onto emerging Indie Brooklyn label ‘Terrible’ Records (which co-owned by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear) certainly worked in her favor. Hynes and Solange’s music collaboration is a success with an addictive Indie electro pop record. “True” has a hint of 80’s pop with electronic drums and a completely new sound.

Song favorites: “Losing You,” “Some Things Never Seem to Fucking Work,” “Locked in Closets” and “Bad Girls.” Available on iTunes for $7.00. Click “Continue Reading” to listen. -Taryn Cox for THE WIFE

New Music: “The 20/20 Experience”

Justin Timerlake, The 20/20 Experience

It’s been 7 years since Justin Timberlake brought “sexy back” in his last 2006 album. His third album “The 20/20 experience” debuted yesterday and unless your living under a rock, you’ve no doubt heard the first two singles “Suit and Tie” and “Mirrors.” The fun tunes caught my ear last week on Saturday Night Live (videos below) and I couldn’t help but sing along and do a little dance to both. The suave pop star makes an effort to be creative with 7 minutes long songs that seem more like a jam session than a well created track. He does serve up an ambient series of R&B songs sang along side ” JT and the Tennessee Kids.” Perfect to buy if you need new grove based music to rock you into Spring. Favorites include: “Mirrors,” “That Girl,” and “Pusher Love Girl,” $10.99 on iTunes.com
